What role do they play in your practice? Ma’at is the concept of “things being as they should be”. This encompasses correctness, truth, justice, cosmic balance/order, ecological stability/equilibrium, right relationships, and right actions. I know it’s tempting to try to boil it down to a one-word translation, but there’s no equivalent English word that can encompass the entire scope of ma’at. A few people have suggested “balance”, which has resulted in some excellent discussion, but I find it limiting to use “balance” as translation of “ma’at” given that it is only one aspect of ma’at.
