Seated at the back, the sun shone vigorously on me, drenching my face in its light. I had my sunglasses on too, but it was simply not enough for the scorching Karachi heat. So, I put on my black dupatta over my face; it was made of a light cotton fabric so I could still see from beneath it. Suddenly, the world around me felt softer, less cruel with the combination of my sunglasses and dupatta . In that moment, I tasted what it feels like to be free: To be able to see the world around you, and not being seen, or being in absolute control of how others view you. What’s more secure than being in a position that doesn’t let anyone have a glimpse of you? What’s more comforting than to be completely nonexistent, and not even being a flash in the memories of travelers...
