Just in the last two years we have seen that funerary rituals have rapidly undergone drastic change: people have been dying alone, families have not been able to attend to their recent dead, and funerals have been streamed online. It is still too early to tell which of these changes will have a lasting impact on contemporary funerary practices, and which are only temporary responses to the immediate crisis.
