Mendon Ponds is a 2,500 acre park with a number of unique geologic features, including the Devil’s Bathtub, a depression created 30,000 years ago by a retreating glacier (i.e., a “kettle hold”). This pond, which I’d estimate to be about 5-7 acres in diameter, features a floating island of moss and several species of carnivorous plants. Frozen mud makes for some uneven foot landings, but I prefer it over ice!
