ENG 112, Section DF, Fall 2014 ENG 112, Section DF, Fall 2014 Menu Skip to content Home About “Strayed” Paragraph Leave a reply We walked down from the inn, toward the little downtown that was cradled on our side by a hill of houses and B&Bs and on the other side by a high steep slope of autumn leaves.  The day before I had noticed, from reading a little sign next to the sidewalk, that one of the plots of land on the way down had been owned by George Washington, who came here to bathe in the mineral waters.  This morning, there was a little farmer’s market at the base of the hill, and seated on a picnic table behind one of the vendor tents was a man dressed — complete with stovepipe hat — as Abraham Lincoln.  He was by himself, and appeared to be eating a bowl of oatmeal.  Julianne wanted me to go over to ask to have my picture taken with him, but I said, “Let the man eat his oatmeal in peace.”  But I consented to have my picture taken with Honest Abe in the background....
