Hello! - Jack Terwilliger Skip to content Jack Terwilliger Menu Home Explainers Tools Hello! I study the cognitive underpinnings of social interaction and communication. Currently, I am a PhD student in the Comparative Cognition Lab at UCSD. Our mundane every-day social activities (pointing at a flower, saying goodbye, moving a couch, or crossing a busy street) are remarkable demonstrations of these skills. My research focuses on human adults, children, dogs, and machines. I strongly believe in starting with naturalistic observational data and in crafting one’s own research tools or in ‘grinding one’s own lenses’ so to speak. Previously I studied Cognitive Science and Computer Science at Dartmouth College, built language ‘reckoning’ systems at Forge.AI , researched pedestrian-driver interactions at MIT to inform autonomous vehicle design, and helped supplant the Nielson TV rating system at VideoAmp .
