Αγκαλιάζει κτήρια, αγκαλιάζει δέντρα, απλώνει μέσα στα δάση, δημιουργεί φράχτες, μυστικά περάσματα. Από τη Γη πάει προς τον Ουρανό, επιβλητικά πράσινος, με όμορφα σχέδια, συναντάται πολύ στην Ήπειρο, απο εκεί έχω πάρει αυτήν την εικόνα, ή αλλιώς η Άπειρος, απλώνεται προς τον άπειρο ουρανό να βρεί το φως. Όταν αναρριχάται σε τοίχους που το κονίαμα είναι σταθερό, το προστατεύει, αλλά εάν το κονίαμα είναι πορώδης και από απαλά υλικά οι ρίζες μπορούν να εισχωρίσουν μέσα και να συντρίψουν το τοίχωμα, το σπίτι ή τον φράχτη. Γνωστός από την εποχή του Ομήρου στην αρχαία Ελλάδα ήταν σύμβολο ζωτικότητας, χαράς και αθανασίας και ονομαζόταν «Διονύσιον», επειδή ήταν αφιερωμένος στο θεό Διόνυσο. Οι αρχαίοι Έλληνες στεφάνωναν με κισσό τα αγάλματα του Διονύσου, τους ποιητές και τους πότες...
