Dimasa akhir hidupnya beliau bercerita; Suatu waktu (ketika saya sudah usia tua) saya tidak tau kenapa ingin sekali menuju satu kota di Irak. Padahal tidak ada janji sama orang dan tidak ada keperluan. Akhirnya Imam Ahmad pergi sendiri menuju ke kota Bashrah. Beliau bercerita; Begitu tiba disana waktu Isya’, saya ikut shalat berjamaah isya di masjid, hati saya merasa tenang, kemudian saya ingin istirahat. Begitu selesai shalat dan jamaah bubar, imam Ahmad ingin tidur di masjid, tiba-tiba Marbot masjid data...
