First, NNA was able to get lawmakers’ attention focused on federal agencies who should be spending more of their advertising budgets with community newspaper media. This resulted in meetings with the Department of Health and Human Services and later its agency that may result in very promising changes to their advertising strategies. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) was integral in getting language in the fiscal 2024 Appropriations bill that strongly encouraged HHS to use community and rural newspapers.
