The day was picked to coincide with Orange Shirt Day, which is fitting when you understand that recent events surrounding residential school graves of children sparked this important day. It is long overdue. For many it may be just another day off. But some, I hope, will reflect on the effects of colonization, our relationships with this land’s original inhabitants and learn a little something in the process. To that end, this week I finished the excellent University of Alberta course titled Indigenous Canada.
