It gave me a confidence I’d never possessed before. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always had a gob on me but I saved it for special drunk occasions and when in the company of the people I’m most at ease with. The thought of getting up on a stage and opening my gob and anything meaningful coming out in a very quivery voice has always been the stuff of nightmares to me.
