The premise is that two men, former friends, fought to the death in a trial by duel when one man was accused of raping the wife of the other. If the husband lost, then it would ‘prove’ that the wife was lying, and she would subsequently be burned alive at the stake. If the husband won, well that would prove the wife told the truth. Women were property, so the rape of a woman was a crime against her husband, damn it. The film opens with the famous duel about to take place and then the film segues into past events and exactly what led these...
