10 września 2020 Na miejskim cmentarzu rozpoczęły się prace renowacyjne w kwaterze wojennej żołnierzy Wojska Polskiego poległych w latach 1918-1920. Na realizację zadania Miasto Żyrardów pozyskało 129 600 zł w ramach programu Ministerstwa Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego „Groby i cmentarze wojenne w kraju”. Dobrze znane żyrardowianom miejsce skrywa swoje tajemnice. Ostatnio w trakcie oczyszczania muru za postumentem, konserwatorzy odkryli symbole militarne- orła legionowego, Order Virtuti Militari i szable. Podstawowym celem planowanych prac przy pomniku jest zatrzymanie degradacji obelisku, ceglanego muru wraz z marmurowymi tablicami i zabezpieczenie ich przed dalszym niszczeniem oraz przywrócenie im utraconych wartości estetycznych.
