Beyond Behavior Uncategorized February 11, 2017 I once worked with a child who refused, and I mean refused (in the absolute no, fight for your right, bat out of hell, kicking and screaming kind of refusal) to brush his teeth in the morning. When I arrived on the team, they had (with very good intentions) tried every approach that many professionals would advocate for, and rightfully so. The parents had been encouraged to wake the child up earlier in order to provide additional time, toothbrushing skills had been taught step by step, the flavor of the toothpaste was taken into careful consideration, sensory issues and sensitives were examined, and many conversations were had on the importance of why one should brush one’s teeth, with reasonings varying from fresh breath to appropriate dental health.
