W młodości robiłem dachy. Jako robotnik niewykwalifikowany, potem już trochę wykwalifikowany. Ciężka praca. Bardzo ciężka. Osiem, czasami dziesięć godzin na dachu, na wysokościach. Trzeba umiejętnie pochylać ciało, żeby dostosować się stromizny, trzeba – przy napiętej uwadze, bo o wypadek nietrudno, a nie będziesz przecież pracować cały dzień z asekuracyjnymi linami – przenosić belki, deski, mierzyć, zaznaczać, wbijać gwoździe, wyciągać gwoździe, obsługiwać niezbyt bezpieczny pneumatyczny pistolet do gwoździ, zrzucać dachówki, wnosić dachówki, układać dachówki et cetera. Dzień po dniu, tydzień po tygodniu, miesiąc po miesiącu. Od rana do zmierzchu, bo każdemu zależy przecież na czasie. Wszystko to przy palącym słońcu, przy padającym deszczu przy wiejącym wściekle wietrze, przy którym kostnieją dłonie. Drżące, omdlewające mięśnie, dające o sobie znać stawy, poranione dłonie i niebezpieczna wysokość. Mozół, monotonia. Po pracy chodziliÅmy na krótko do knajpki, czasem maÅe piwo, czas...
