Armenia's geographical location renders it a connecting point between Europe and Asia, in particular for air transport. To maximize the benefits of aviation connectivity, both parties have negotiated and initialled a Common Aviation Area Agreement on 24 November 2017. Already on 9 December 2008 in Brussels, the Republic of Armenia and the European Community signed the Agreement on certain aspects of air services (so called Horizontal Air Services Agreement). This agreement allows any EU airline to operate flights between Armenia and any EU Member State where it is established and where a bilateral agreement with Armenia exists and traffic rights are available. It does not replace the bilateral agreements but adapts them to bring them into line with EU law.
