Ford ha applicato lo stesso principio al mondo dell’auto, creando un accumulatore di energia esterno per veicoli elettrici. ll dispositivo, progettato dall'Ovale Blu, è racchiuso in un portapacchi da tetto. La differenza principale, rispetto a un comune baule, è che parte dello spazio interno è occupato da batterie supplementari capaci di alimentare i così detti BEV, le auto elettriche. L’unica differenza con un comune baule è che buona parte dello spazio interno è occupato da batterie supplementari che consentono di fornire energia alle auto BEV.
