AMERICUS — Feng Jie of DeSoto, a South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) air conditioning technology student, was named SGTC Student of Excellence for September during the college’s student recognition ceremony held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus campus. Jie received a plaque of recognition and a financial award from SGTC for his accomplishments. He was nominated for this honor by SGTC air conditioning technology instructor, Glynn Cobb. “He’s a very dedicated student — always early to class, has an excellent work ethic, and is incredibly smart,” said Cobb of his nominee. Jie moved to Georgia eight years ago from China, and says he loves it here. “I’m still trying to get better at English,” he joked. “My instructor Mr. Cobb is so good at what he does.
