In it, I explained how the traditional 60/40 portfolio was crushed when the Fed started raising interest rates, setting investors who followed this “Wall Street wisdom” back years. Fast forward to 2023, and the conventional wisdom has completely shifted.  I’ve read several research pieces recently explaining why the 60/40 portfolio is now dead and a terrible approach. The articles cite the performance of this approach over the last three years, a time when bond prices and stock prices fell in tandem. Once again, “Wall Street Wisdom” has it all wrong.
