전 세계 데스크톱 PC 시장이 빠르게 축소되고 있는 가운데 우리나라 조립PC 시장은 여전히 굳건한 모습을 보이고 있어 그 배경에 관심이 모아진다.
  4일 업계에 따르면 국내 조립PC 시장 규모는 월 평균 16만대로 추산된다. 용산전자상가 등에서 각종 부품을 조립해 완제품으로 판매되는 PC가 약 11만대, 컴퓨터 핵심 부품인 CPU만 따로 판매돼 소비자나 소매상들이 조립해 판매하는 양이 5만대 가량이다.
  그동안 조립PC 시장 규모는 이렇다 할 집계가 이뤄지지 않았다. 탈세를 위한 음성적인 거래가 적지 않았기 때문이다. 그러나 용산 주요 업체들의 판매 수치와 PC의 핵심 부품인 CPU의 1차 총판 판매량을 역산해보면 그 규모를 가능할 수 있다고 업계 관계자들은 입을 모은다.
  계산법은 이렇다. 서울 용산 전자상가를 중심으로 형성된 조립PC 시장은 5~6개의 대형 업체와 전자 상가 내에 인터넷몰과 매장 판매를 중심으로 하는 다수의 소매상들이 있다. 몇 년간 경기침체로 인해 문을 닫는 소매상이 늘어난 반면 대형 업체의 시장 점유율은 꾸준한 편이다.
