 Nagroda im. Ireny Sendlerowej została ustanowiona w 2008 r. przez Taube Philanthropies dla upamiętnienia Ireny Sendlerowej, którą Yad Vashem uznał za Sprawiedliwą wśród Narodów Świata. Nagroda przyznawana jest co roku osobom, które – jak podkreśla fundacja Taubego – “w sposób godny naśladowania przyczyniły się do zachowania i rewitalizacji dziedzictwa żydowskiego w Polsce”. W tym roku Nagrodę Sendlerowej otrzymała Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, szefowa Fundacji Jana Karskiego. Panią Junczyk-Ziomecką spotkałem raz, wiele lat temu, w Los Angeles, na mało inspirującym spotkaniu dyplomatycznym, którego cel już dawno zapadł w mrokach niepamięci. Nasze najbardziej pamiętne spotkanie (choć p. Junczyk-Ziomecka nie była na nim fizycznie obecna) miało jednak miejsce nieco później, w 2010 roku. Wraz z prof. Janem T. Grossem zorganizowałem wtedy na Uniwersytecie Princeton konferencję pod tytułem “Holokaust w Polsce”, a w programie znal...
